You’ll be happy to know the nearest pub, The Royal, is just around the corner where you can order Fish & Chips from the Royal Plaice opposite to ‘Eat In’.   A short stroll away is the Seagate offering delicious dishes and local spirits.

A car is recommended for travelling to the property and ease of getting around however, there is an excellent bus service in the village.  The nearest train station is Barnstaple which is approx. 20 mins by car.

About Us

About Us

We started coming to Appledore because of Ade Edmondson!  Jamie was watching a cookery programme where Ade Edmondson was cooking locally caught seafood outside the Seagate pub on the quayside   He was so taken with the views from the quayside and estuary across to Instow that when I arrived home he said we were booking a holiday to Appledore!   That was roughly around 2012 and here we are now…..

We continued coming to Appledore each year, quite often for New Year when it was tradition for all the locals to compete for the best fancy dress ending up with stray sheep (human) scattered around the streets in the early hours.   We also discovered the famous Appledore Book Festival during our first visit here by chance.

Appledore has certainly changed over the years, revamped pubs, more restaurants, more people, but the charm and unique feel has always remained the same and we still love it just as much now as we did then.    Appledore is so convenient for visiting many Devon and Cornwall attractions and yet still it gives the feeling of being the perfect idyll to retreat to for the ultimate relaxing getaway.

We eventually were fortunate and lucky enough to get the opportunity to buy Popham House.  We knew we loved it even before viewing!

We hope that you can see why we love this place so much and have an amazing time here!  It really is quite a magical place.  Somewhere you just will not want to leave!
